2017-2018 was the first year that there was a girls team at Lane Tech. Coach Berg advertised the team for the first time to girls only and 25 girls showed up to the interest meeting and almost all of them stayed for the entire season. GUM (Girls Ultimate Movement) helped coach Berg establish the team and coach Connor took over the boys team with the help of coach Jose.
The boys team had a good group of seniors who took the team over and worked hard to improve on their skills. They competed at a higher level than the previous year and saw improvements in their results.
The team transitioned from practicing on the front lawn to practicing at Clark Park. There were still weekend practices at Horner with coach Jose.
The girls first scrimmage was against Walter Payton in the snow. Despite being their first time playing and playing against an experienced team, they were able to score a few points and learned a lot in the process. The girls went to their first tournament, Neuqua Knockout, where they played teams from Denver, and Madison. It was a highly spirited first experience playing in a tournament in which the girls learned a lot and bonded as a team. At the tournament we won our first game! Woot woot.
